Ninety-nine per cent of the time, I can’t be bothered to switch up my beauty routine as the seasons change. My go-tos work perfectly fine year-round. I do, however, immediately bust out my dry brush as soon as it gets warmer – it’s the only thing I’ve found that effectively tackles the dry, nightmarish skin that I want gone before bare-legs season. Here, let me explain.
How it works
Sweeping a brush with firm bristles over your dry body helps to get rid of the dead cells that make skin look flaky, says dermatologist Lily Talakoub, founder of Derm to Door. And before you ask, yes, it’s more effective than using a scrub.
While the process may be too intense for folks with eczema, sensitive skin or active body acne, those with ‘normal’ skin can expect a softer, silkier texture after a single sesh. The internet claims that dry brushing can also increase circulation, encourage lymphatic drainage (actual derms are on the fence about this, FYI) and get rid of cellulite (fake news, sorry).
