I’m planning to use my “down time” between Christmas and New Year to consider what I might do differently in 2024. Staying aware of seasons as they change is top of my list. Awhile ago, I started a nature journal and hoped it might slow the feeling of time passing. It didn’t exactly, but it does make me slow down and observe what is happening in the world outside. So I’ve decided I’m going to bookend each day with two more healthy habits. Number one is going for a 20-minute walk before I start work. I’ve read recently that walking first thing – especially in winter – helps you stay alert through the day, improves circulation and boosts immunity and mood. And I definitely want a dose of all of those. Number two is adding a “nurture” column to my nature journal, to record all the positive things that have happened and to remind me to celebrate even the smallest wins. I might not be able to slow down time, but I can do more to bring a sense of optimism and fulfilment to every day.
