This walk takes you from Brig o’ Turk around Loch Achray via the Trossachs Path, up Ben A’an and then back to the start via the high path through the woods.

The views along Loch Achray are superb with the hill Ben Venue prominent to the left.

When atop Ben A’an the vistas open up along Loch Katrine, the reservoir supplying fresh water to the central belt of Scotland.

1 Start

Upon leaving the car park head past The Byre Inn and between the cluster of houses to cross old packhorse bridge and turn R to follow the track through Achray Farm. Follow the Great Trossachs Path along edge of Loch Achray.

2 1⅓ miles/2.1km

At just under halfway along the loch shore the track will take a turn south and head up into the woods.

Follow this south and then west as it heads towards the main road. Once you reach the main road, do a dogleg R then L to pick up a smaller but well-defined woodland path which joins up with another ATV track.

Turn R and follow the main track through the forest.

At this point head north across a footbridge over Achray water and follow it to the car park for Ben Venue (signposted).

junction at NN503067 and you can take either direction as both will lead you to the car park. Exit the car park and turn L to carefully follow the road along the Loch shore.

Some minor scrambling on the final ascent.

Some exposure and can be wet underfoot. Final exit path can be very boggy, tricky to find and isn’t marked on OS maps Stiles None
