This circular walk from Hoveton and Wroxham railway station takes you cross-country to the villages of Belaugh and Coltishall on the lovely River Bure. (The route is inspired by one of the Norfolk Trails, norfolktrails.co.uk.) The church at Belaugh, unusually for Norfolk, stands on a hill above the river. Inside, there is a carved and painted medieval roodscreen with battered-but-still-colourful saints and more modern kneelers embroidered with local scenes. A choice of pubs at the just-over-halfway point in riverside Coltishall makes this a scenic lunch stop. The walk also begins with an optional half-mile loop around the busy village of Hoveton (Wroxham is on the other side of the river). If you would rather set off at once, and maybe explore Hoveton at the end, simply skip to Point 2.
