Mother and daughter Ansreen and Mahek Bukhari enjoyed social media fame together as they shared their party lifestyle with their 128k followers on TikTok and Instagram. But, in August this year, they found a new joint infamy when they became convicted murderers.

Mahek, 24, had dreamt of a social media career after dropping out of university, and mum Ansreen supported her ambition. The pair had an “elite relationship”, with Ansreen, 46, going on nights out and appearing in TikTok videos with her daughter, until an affair with a younger man sparked a chain of events that ended in tragedy.

Ansreen met Saqib Hussain, 21, on video app Azar in 2019. Then 18, he pretended he was 27. The pair hit it off, despite the age difference and the fact Ansreen was married, and after swapping numbers, they began talking every day. She was said to be “flattered” by his interest and they met in hotels, restaurants and shisha lounges. He would send gifts to her home, where she lived with her husband, son and Mahek. But in 2021, Ansreen tried to end their romance.

Saqib allegedly struggled to deal with her rejection and refused to accept her decision, pleading with her to reconsider. When she didn’t, he reportedly threatened to expose their affair to Ansreen’s husband with intimate photos and videos. Extracts of messages Saqib sent to Ansreen were read out in court, in which he threatened to come to her house. “You’re pissing me off more and more by ignoring me,” he wrote in one message, with another saying, “I will do something you’re gonna regret.” He also asked for £3,000, which he claimed he had spent on his lover during their romance.

Unsure of what to do, Ansreen told her daughter everything, but rather than contact the police, Mahek decided to take matters into her own hands and asked her friend Rekan Karwan forhelp.Hethenenlisted thehelpofbestfriendRaees Jamal, and his cousin, Ameer Jamal, as well as friends Natasha Akhtar, Sanaf Gulemmustaf
