THE MURDER OF EDDIE HUTCH

A bloody feud that erupted between two of the most notorious crime families in Ireland led to the murder of an innocent man on 8February 2016. Eddie Hutch was gunned down in his own home in an act of revenge against his family, the first of ten retaliatory killings carried out in the following weeks.

MURDER SCENE

Eddie was killed at his home in Poplar Row, north Dublin. Although not thought to be actively involved in his brother’s crime business, the Gardaí believe Eddie may have been shot in revenge for the Hutch mob’s killing of David Byrne. This associate of the Kinahans was shot dead at the Regency Hotel in W hitehall, Dublin on 5 February 2016. It was suggested Byrne may himself have been targetted in revenge for the murder of Gary Hutch.

Taxi driver Eddie, 59, was the brother of notorious criminal Gerry Hutch, known as “The Monk”. Gerry was the leader of Dublin’s Hutch gang, which was locked in a feud with the Kinahan clan, led by Christy Kinahan (see right). He was also the uncle of Gary Hutch, whose murder in Spain in September 2015 may have been the catalyst for the tragic chain of events that followed.
