Create a completely 3D gingerbread house hanging decoration for Christmas, using our chart and downloadable template

PLEASE NOTE: On the centre of the chart you will see a brown cross, this is also the centre of your fabric, so count out from this point to position the house walls, making sure you get them exactly in the same position on the aida to give you enough seam allowance to be able to assemble the house correctly.

How to… assemble the house

Use double-sided tape on the edges of the gable end templates before wrapping with the stitched aida. Fold the edges of the aida on to the tape.

Step 1

NOTE that on the centre of the chart you will see a brown cross, this is also the centre of your fabric, so count out from this point making sure you get them in exactly the same position on the fabric to give you enough seam allowance to assemble the house. Stitch the gable ends and the side walls marked front and back, using two strands for the cross stitch and one for the backstitch and French knots. Add the seed beads and the buttons to the stitching.

Step 2

CUT out the labelled house parts from the template – you can download this from the CrossStitcher Digital Downloads Facebook group page. Cut exactly on the line or the house will be difficult to assemble. Cut out the stitched gable ends and walls from the fabric, with the maximum amount of aida seam allowance that is available.

Step 3

ADD double-sided tape to the edges of a gable end and then wrap the stitching around the template. You may have to remove a small amount of aida at the top to make the layers sit flat. Check the position of the stitching, and when you are happy, remove the tape covering and press into place. Repeat with the other gable end.

Step 4

THE side walls are assembled in the same way using double-sided tape – the templates are marked front and back. Wrap the stitched aida around checking the position at the front – it is important that the bottom of the design is right at the bottom of the template so that the stitching on the
