This makes it easier for anyone wishing to stitch up several tags in one go, ready for Christmas Day!

Make a…Christmas box

Step 1

STITCH your postbox design in the centre of one piece of evenweave, using two strands for the cross stitch and one for the backstitch, and working each stitch over two threads of evenweave.

Step 2

WRAP the stitched evenweave around a cardboard square, using double-sided tape to attach the excess fabric tightly to the reverse side – you can lace it in place if you prefer.

Step 3

REPEAT the same for the remaining three sides, plus the top and bottom. You can leave the evenweave unstitched, or if you prefer, stitch the design on each face so that it can be seen from all sides. All six box sides should be exactly the same size.

Step 4

USING the Christmas fabric, repeat for the remaining six cardboard squares – you will need to trim these six cardboard square down slightly, so that they are just smaller than the cardboard square used for the outside of the box.

Step 5

START to assemble the outside of the box by pinning together two side pieces covered in evenweave. Make sure the top and bottom match up and then lace down the seam, with small neat stitches. Do the same for the remaining sides, then add the box bottom in the same way. The box top needs to be placed wrong-sides together with a Christmas fabric-covered square, and then once pinned, catch stitched around all four sides – because you trimmed the inner cardboard slightly smaller than the outer, the lining will fit neatly inside the box.

Step 6

ASSEMBLE the Christmas fabric inner covered squares in the same way as the outer evenweave box, but make sure the right side of the Christmas fabric is on the inside, so that it will slip inside the box a
