New Fujifilm compact and lens

Fujifilm fans will have noticed that the X-T50 succeeds the F X-T30 II and the manufacturer will have sound reasons for giving an X-T40 a swerve. Nomenclature speculation aside, the X-T50 costs around half as much again as the X-T30 II, so what will buyers get for their money? The X-T50 is based around a 40MP sensor and X-Processor 5 image processor and offers up to seven stops of in-body image stabilisation and 6K video. While Fujifilm’s X-T20 and X-T30 tended to feature tech from models with one fewer zero in the product name, the X-T50 only gets a single SD card slot, in comparison to the pair that features in its highly regarded X-T5 sibling – plus a slightly inferior viewfinder, a smaller battery and a lack of weather-sealing. Also released was the XF16-50mm F2.8-4.8 R LM WR, which succeeds the XF18-55mm F2.8-4 kit lens. The 16-50mm optic features an internal zoom mechanism and three control rings (focus, zoom and aperture), although it lacks optical stabilisation. www.fujifilm.com; £1,299/$1,399 (X-T50, body only). £699/$699 (XF16-50mm F2.8-4.8 R LM WR)

Lumix S9 & Lumix S 26mm f/8

The smallest and lightest full-frame mirrorless camera in Panasonic’s lineup, the S9 weighs in at just 403g. Headline specs include a 24.2MP full-frame image sensor paired with phase detection autofocus and five stops of 5-axis in-body image stabilisation. Also taking a bow is the S 26mm f/8, the first (and currently only) pancake lens from the L-Mount Alliance. Offering an ideal angle for spontaneously capturing the world around you, so perfect for street and travel photography, the new optic measures 18.1mm in length and weighs 58g. www.panasonic.com; £1,500/$1,499 (Lumix S9, body only). £220/$TBC (Lumix S 26mm)

Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN II Art

Sigma’s latest flagship lens, the 24-70mm S f/2.8 DG DN Art II is the second iteration of arguably the best standard trinity lens you can buy. An incredible seven per cent smaller and 10 per cent lighter than its predecessor, the new zoom is significantly more affordable than its first-party rivals. Aside from the weight and size savings, other improvements include the incorporation of Sigma’s HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) motor for the autofocus system, enhanced optical performance and a de-clickable aperture ring.
