Decorate with… the textural minimalist look

Taking all the key elements from the minimalism playbook, such as its restricted colour palette and affinity for limiting decorative details to those found in nature – the veining of marble or grain of timber – this design direction adds a little extra warmth with muted shades of green, off-white and cream

Styled by the ELLE Decoration team and featuring pieces by MAH Gallery and Béton Brut, the ELLE Decoration penthouse apartment was very much influenced by this timelessly chic aesthetic ➤

The inspiration

Interior designer Joseph Dirand’s home in Paris perfectly encapsulates his signature approach. The rooms he creates are soberly minimalist – with an exacting eye for detail and precision – but also introduce elements of classic French style and even Hollywood glamour (he has famously been known to share his advice with Kanye West, after all). Mixing streamlined pieces in marble, a material that features heavily in his own furniture collection, with dark wood and the occassional glint of metallics, the designer then layers on top soft and understated splashes of sage green, cream and taupe. The effect is one that feels both respectful to the past, but also quietly, sympathetically contemporary.
