Shot through with lime and set against metallic surfaces, this year lilac is shaking off its dainty associations in favour of a tougher attitude now

The inspiration
Candy colours, raw industrial materials and lush plants are the signature elements of Tableau CPH. The Copenhagen-based multidisciplinary studio designs products, spaces and sets, as well as art curation and floral installations. This scene (below), created to showcase Thomas Gayet’s aluminium dining set, is a textbook example of its distinctive style, with lilac walls acting as a soft foil for the uncompromising angular forms and sleek brushed-metallic finish of the table and chairs. The pastel backdrop both complements and contrasts with the metal furniture, while the fresh green of the plants lifts the scheme and sheer curtain panels filter the light. The interplay between different materials and textures – hard and soft, translucent and opaque – and the patisserie-shop colour palette feels fun, fresh and very cool. tableau-cph.com
