City life

As the Swedish capital welcomes the world for its annual design week (5–11 February), we asked the local colourist, designer and photographer to share her favourite spots in the city

1

Born in Gävle, Sweden, Severin studied interior architecture and furniture design at Stockholm’s Konstfack University of Arts and Crafts and has a love of colour that is seen in the streets of Stockholm (1), her home. She is known as a ‘warm minimalist’, and her ‘Teklan Editions’ have been featured by international furniture and fashion houses and she has worked as a colour expert for brands including Louis Poulsen and Apple. In 2022 she won the ELLE Decoration International Design Award (EDIDA) for best kitchen design (with Very Simple Kitchen) and, this spring, she is releasing new furnishings, finishes and exhibition designs. teklaevelinaseverin.com

Decoration & design

Svenskt Tenn Strandvägen 5, 114 51 Selling furniture, lamps, accessories, jewellery and so much more, this shop (3) is an institution that has been influential for decades. With the heritage of Estrid Ericson and Josef Frank still a big part of the brand’s universe today, Svenskt Tenn is always evolving and collaborates with contemporary designers and artists. It also has a lovely afternoon tea salon and a café (svenskttenn.com).

Dusty Deco Linnégatan 13, 114 47 For an eclectic, handpicked mix of everything from crafted and vintage pieces to contemporary furniture and objects, always with an international vibe, this is a must-visit (dustydeco.com).

Montana Furniture Sibyllegatan 21, 114 42 Not far away is the small but delicate flagship store (2) of one of my favourite collaboration partners and Danish brands. Go there to dip into its beautiful universe of storage developed by colour alchemist Margrethe Odgaard, with 41 shades available in countless combinations. A true dream (montanafurniture.com).

Art

The Ode To Odengatan 84, 113 22 My favourite art destination, offering a unique and wide range of styles and artists, mostly female. It’s pretty affordable too (theodeto.com).

CF Hill Västra Trädgårdsgatan 9, 111 53 This modern gallery in a 16th-century building shows work by a handpicked mix of artists, such as Carsten Möllers and renowned Swedish woven rug artist Märta Måås Fjetterström (cfhill.com).

Artipelag Artipelagstigen 1, 134 40 Gustavsberg In the Stockholm Archipelago, this venue (4) is where nature meets art, with a restaurant, café and exhibitions. If you visit in spring or summer, take the hour-long boat ride out (artipelag.se).

Stockholm’s subway system You can explore stations, each created by different designers and artists, by joining a guided tour. I have done a lot of photography over the years in Stockholm’s subway stations; my
