What does her meow mean?

We’ve had our cat, Stella, for around 16 years, so she is old. She makes different meows for different reasons and we know what they usually mean, but she’s started to make a new sound.

We just can’t work out why she does it or what it’s for. It’s very loud and quite deep, and when we go to her, she’ll either run off really quickly or stop meowing and stare at us. What does it mean?

Texas says:

Stella is mentally starting to feel her age and I suspect she has some mild dementia, which could account for this new behaviour.

Now and again, there are some moments where she feels an odd sensation, almost like she needs more air. She could Stella have a heart issue that is intermittent, so harder to diagnose. I think it could be worth a trip to the vet to give you peace of mind.

Vicky says:

We’ve often said we think she may have dementia, bless her. It’s worrying to think she might have a heart condition, but considering her age, it’s not surprising. I’m hoping she’s got many years left in her. Lots of extra fuss and cuddles are coming her way.

Why is he eating curry?

Something really peculiar is happening with my 15-year-old cat, Gerry. After a lifetime of eating and enjoying his regular cat food, he’s suddenly decided he prefers human food instead.

Current favourites include spag Bol, noodles, ham and crackers, chicken curry and even a bit of salad.

Have his tastebuds changed or is it a nutritional issue? Any tips for getting him to stop would be most appreciated.
