Each month, ex-cop and psychic Nicky Alan teams up with her spirit guides to investigate an unsolved mystery. Did rock legend Jimi Hendrix foresee his fate in a dream?

In July 1969, guitarist, singer and songwriter Jimi Hendrix was riding high.

The previous year, his latest album, Electric Ladyland, considered by many to be a masterpiece, had reached Number One in the US charts.

He was also booked to play the Woodstock festival in August — a performance that would go down as one of the most iconic moments in rock history.

With the world at his feet, the young musician headed off to Morocco on what would turn out to be his one and only holiday with his friend Colette Mimram.

Once there, Colette introduced Jimi to members of her family, including a female clairvoyant who had recently married her grandfather. Taking out her tarot cards, the woman said she would look into what the future held for Jimi.

She turned over the death card.

Even though the card might have simply signified change or transformation, Jimi took it literally.

From that moment, he began counting down the months and days, telling friends he was going to die before he reached the age of 30.

He also described a dream in which he drowned in red wine after having a sexual encounter with the Egyptian queen, Cleopatra.

Jimi Hendrix never did see his 30th birthday. He died on 18 September 1970 at the age of just 27.

The coroner recorded the cause as ‘inhalation of vomit due to barbiturate intoxication’.

However, over the following years, numerous other theories about the rock star’s death began to surface, and one of them was that he had in fact drowned — in red wine.

Had the tarot really predicted his fate? Had Jimi himself foreseen his death in a dream?

For most of Jimi Hendrix’s short life, the spectres of poverty, abuse and addiction had loomed large. Born in Seattle, USA, he was a sensitive, shy boy, who would often hide in the closet while his parents fought.

When his alcoholic mother died at the age of 33, Jimi’s father wouldn’t let him attend the funeral. Instead, he gave him shots of whiskey and told him that was how real men dealt with loss.

Later in his life, Jimi would confide in a friend that he was sexually abused as a child by a man in uniform.

However, one thing that Jimi did have going for him was his incredible talent for music — a talent that would see him go on to record three iconic studio albums.

So where did it all go wrong? What led up to Jimi Hendrix’s untimely death? And, some have asked, what really caused it? By the summer of 1970, Jimi’s mental and physical state had become a cause for concern. Indulging in excesses of drink and drugs, he was paranoid and unable to trust those around
