As I tried to figure out my dream’s message, I soon realised its eerie warning.

Nursing my drink, I smiled anxiously at the guy sitting opposite.

We had been seeing each other for a few months, now it was time to tell him my secret.

‘I have something you should know,’ I confessed.

‘What is it?’ he asked.

Tentatively, I told him I’d been seeing spirits since I was five years old.

‘Once, I told Mum that if I wasn’t in bed when she came to check on me, it was OK because I was with the people who walked through walls,’ I explained.

Then I told him about my vivid dreams that seemingly predict the future.

‘In my 20s, after one of my dreams, I phoned Mum and told her to check on my nan, who was receiving treatment for bowel cancer. Mum did, and found a blood clot in her Hickman line. She rushed Nan to hospital and was told that if she had delayed, Nan would have died.’ ‘I see,’ he replied, looking a bit puzzled, but he didn’t question what I’d told him.

Our relationship went from strength to strength. In time, we got married and started trying for a family.

Then, one morning, I woke with a start after a particularly vivid dream. It felt significant.

‘I need to tell you about my dream,’ I told my husband.

‘I was walking through the London Underground, when suddenly I saw crowds of people run past me screaming,’ I explained. ‘I followed the screams to the station platform, and found a little round monster crying on a bench.’ I was comforting it, when soldiers appeared with guns complete with torches on the ends.

‘When they took the monster away from me, I cried for it,’ I said.

Neither of us understood what on earth it meant, but I felt sure it was important.

It played on my mind.

Then a few days later, I discovered I was pregnant! We were both delighted.

Only, a week later, I started to feel pain in my abdomen.

I went to hospital to be checked over.

During a scan, the doctor looked at the screen, and told me: ‘I can’t see a baby in your uterus.’ I felt confused, because blood tests revealed I was pregnant.

I was told to come back for more tests to find out what was happening inside my body.
