It’s not only Scotland’s biggest city, but Glasgow has also been dubbed Scotland’s spookiest, after a recent survey said one in five Glaswegians reported ghostly activity in their home.

In fact, the poll commissioned by Netflix last year named Glasgow the second most haunted city in the UK. Only in London did a higher proportion of people claim they lived with a spirit presence.

One perturbing case saw police called to a house in the Rutherglen suburb of Glasgow after a mum and her teenage son were left terrified by two days of intense poltergeist activity in 2016.

Shocked police officers attending the house witnessed clothes flying across the room, lampshades turning themselves upside down and the family’s pet Chihuahua dog suddenly appearing on top of a seven-feet tall hedge in the garden. Petrified by the poltergeist’s antics, the mum and son ended up fleeing their home.

And back in the 1970s another spooked Glasgow resident, who lived in a tenement flat in the Easterhouse area of the city, caught regular glimpses of a ghostly man clutching his throat. The woman was so scared she called in a priest to carry out an exorcism.

Paranormal investigator Janice Murdoch-Richards from Lanarkshire Paranormal lives in a haunted Victorian tenement flat in Glasgow. She says lots of otherworldly things have taken place during the 20 years it has been her home.

Janice says: ‘We used to go into the kitchen in the morning to find all the drawers had been pulled open. A medium friend told us the ghost of a Victorian lady who used to live here was desperately looking for a letter she’d lost.

‘And when our pet cats Gypsy and Ozzy were alive, I’d lie in bed listening to a little boy spirit rolling their ball down the hall for them to chase.’

A particularly spooky incident took place one day when Janice was putting away some washing.

‘A spirit bellowed “Argh!” in my ear,’ Janice remembers. ‘It was so loud I jumped out of my skin and the washing went up in the air and landed on the floor.
