From being trapped in a haunted museum’s lift to running from a bodyless pair of legs, Most Haunted’s Yvette Fielding reveals her spookiest encounters…

On set

As I sat in the stalls in the London theatre, surrounded by hundreds of empty seats, I had an eerie feeling.

It was pitch black in the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, and deafeningly quiet.

Then something odd happened, when I looked through the night-vision camera all the hundreds of seats became very clear.

It was as if someone had turned the lights back on.

Suddenly, I began to get cold, which was bizarre as no windows were open.

Next, I felt an icy blast of cold air being blown forcibly into my ear.

That quick, unexplained action terrified me because I knew, without a doubt, that my colleague and I were not alone.

We were filming the first series of Most Haunted, it was 2002, and we had chosen the theatre after a tip-off about possible paranormal happenings.

When we reached the top of the staircase, we all saw the most incredible thing — a pair of legs walking on their own up the stairs.

The legs moved in slow motion, and terrifyingly — no body was attached to them!

I distinctly remember seeing knee-high black boots walking by themselves.

All three of us turned and ran — it was so frightening.

My night at Drury Lane was one of my most memorable investigations.

The encounter on the stairs cemented my belief in ghosts, and life after death.

My paranormal journey

I was a beginner at ghost-hunting then and I had a lot to learn — especially about not screaming at every bump and thump!

This experience was also the first time that I’d seen a ghost, although I’d had a series of paranormal encounters in my own home two years earlier.

Up until my husband Karl and I moved to Cheadle Hulme, Greater Manc
