BEST&WORST DUNDEE UNITED Paul McNicoll of The Dode Fox Podcast remembers leg-biting Nadir Ciftci, and the boy who looks like a sheep

XI

BEST: Billy Thomson, Richard Gough, Paul Hegarty, David Narey, Maurice Malpas, Ralph Milne, Jim McInally, Billy McKinlay, Eamonn Bannon, Paul Sturrock, Davie Dodds.

WORST: Lance Key, Stewart Murdoch, Darren Patterson, Paul Quinn, Tam Scobbie, Christoph Rabitsch, Adam Barton, Yannick Loemba, Jordie Briels, Emil Lyng, Patrick N’Koyi.

PLAYER

B: Sir David Narey [right]. The greatest footballer ever to pull on the famous tangerine jersey.

W: Paul Quinn joined United towards the end of his career when we were at a low ebb, and stunk the place out. He’s also scared of posters!

MOMENT

B: Beating Rangers in the 1994 Scottish Cup Final [right]. They were going for the double treble; we’d lost each of the six previous Scottish Cup finals we’d been in. Craig Brewster scored a 47th-minute tap-in after Christian Dailly hit the post, and the rest of the half seemed to last the rest of the day. A magical moment in our history.

W: The 2008 League Cup Final. Again, Rangers were involved – we played so well and there was a feeling we’d win it for chairman Eddie Thompson, who was ill with cancer. A poor refereeing decision and a backpass cost us, and we lost on penalties. I could have cried.

GAME

B: Winning the league at Dens Park in 1982-83. I have no memory of it, but my father says I was there. For a club the size of us to win the league, at the home of our neighbours, it’s the stuff of dreams.

W: Going down at Dens in 2015-16. As good as it is to win the league there, it’s horrific to have relegation confirmed at the same venue.

SIGNING

B: Billy Dodds [right]. Aberdeen offered us him and £700,000 for Robbie Winters – OK, Winters went on to be decent for the Dons, but Dodds became the main man for us.

W: Lee Miller. Arrived from Bristol City with a big reputation, for a fairly large £225,000 fee, but proved to be a huge letdown. Stinkin!

GOAL

B: The right answer should be Ralphie Milne’s goal at Dens when we won the league, but given I have no memory of that match, I’ll go for Kevin Gallacher’s strike against Barcelona at Tannadice in 1987. An incredible moment.
