The team picks out their dream cottages in France, complete with cosy fireplaces and pretty gardens

I’ve seen the word cottage applied to terraced townhouses and substantial country houses, but to me, a quintessential cottage is a compact rural home, full of character features and charm, with a welcoming aspect.
