READY FOR SUMMER!

I always look forward to summer but this year I'm more excited than ever. Why? Because we’ve finally bought a property in France!

After years of dreaming and reading FPN, we booked a couple of spring viewing trips in our favourite area, the Tarn and Tarn-et-Garonne, and the last house we saw was the one we fell in love with. And guess what? It wasn’t what we thought we were looking for!

We had imagined ourselves in a quiet country setting, cows looking over the hedge, birds singing in the trees, farmers in the fields – a perfect rural idyll. However, having looked at quite a few properties that ticked all the boxes, we just weren’t feeling them. Then our agent suggested we look at a town property in Gaillac. We had nothing to lose so went along with her. And that was it – a coup de coeur, as they say. We instantly fell hook, line and sinker for it, both of us.

So what made it so special? It had the character features we were looking for, beautiful exposed stone walls and beams, inglenook fireplace with a woodburner and so on. It didn’t have the large garden but the courtyard was so pretty and much more manageable – it even has a small plunge pool! But what really sealed the deal was the walking distance to bars, restaurants and a wonderful market. Turns out that was the lifestyle we wanted after all. We’ll have completed on the property by June and have already booked flights for a three-week holiday. Can’t wait!
