Behind the irresistible rise of his elegant folk-pop-soul lie identity crises and recurrent rejections. A new album reveals a bolder, “bolshier” artist, but still with much to prove. “I have to keep polishing my knives,” says Michael Kiwanuka.

What began as a vague idea for two musicians from very different parts of the prog world to jam together has turned into an exciting electro-instrumental project. Bioscope combines the talents of Marillion’s Steve Rothery and Tangerine Dream’s Thorsten Quaeschning.
