HARRY KANE

We talk to Harry Kane about his passion for golf, getting down to scratch and the best players in the England camp…

Kane currently plays off a handicap of 3...;...and he scored 30 times in his first 25 Bundesliga games this season

Golf is one of the most popular hobbies for elite sports stars from other disciplines. It’s not uncommon to see international cricketers, rugby players and footballers take to the golf course when they’re on tours or training camps as a way to get away from the pressures of their day jobs.

Harry Kane is no stranger to that. The England men’s football captain, all-time top goal scorer and now Bayern Munich striker has been an invested golfer since his late teens and even got down to scratch a few years ago, all while becoming Tottenham Hotspur’s all-time leading goal scorer and guiding England to a European Championship final in 2021.

Since his move to Germany last summer, Kane has been busy securing new sponsorship deals away from the football pitch and Reflo, an emerging name focused on being the most sustainable apparel brand in the market, seemed like aperfect fit for both parties. Achance meeting at the Icons Series event in New York in 2022 put Reflo on Kane’s radar and now, less than two years later, England’s captain is an ambassador and seed investor in one of golf’s newest names. Kane recently sat down with GolfMonthlyto discuss why he decided to partner with the relatively unknown brand, and to talk about his relationship with golf now he’s moved to Germany. He also revealed the names of the best footballers he’s played golf with, both in the England camp and beyond...

When did you first pick up the game, and how much do you get out and play at the minute?

I probably first picked up aclub when Iwas maybe 11 or 12, but I wasn’t really all that into it to begin with. That’s probably because I didn’t really start properly playing a lot until I was 17 or 18, when I became a lot more interested in playing, practising and getting better. I went from starting as around an 18-handicapper and then, after a few years, I got down to 10. Year by year, I slowly got lower and lower.

I’m a 3-handicapper right now, but I was a bit lower at one stage back when I was playing a little bit more – I even got down to scratch a few years ago. I haven’t played too much since I’ve made the move to Munich – I’ve had to sort a load of other more important stuff out before I can get back to dedicating time to golf. I just love golf. I’m always watching it and playing it as much as I can.

It sounds like you’re a bit of a golf obsessive and naturally good at the game. If you stopped playing football for good tomorrow and started practising full time, do you think you could go pro?

It’s something me and the guys here in Mu
