1. SKIRTING THE ISSUE

Incredibly easy to do – and far cheaper than buying new units or doors – a fabric ‘skirt’ is a great way to hide unsightly gaps, clutter or freestanding appliances in your kitchen or utility room. Make a simple curtain from a rectangle of your favourite patterned fabric – this Tulip block-printed cotton/linen fabric in Rose Copper costs £204 per m from Molly Mahon – then hang it from a pole or curtain wire stretched across the area you wish to cover.

2. REHOME SWEET HOME

When it’s time to replace your existing kitchen, why not consider buying secondhand? Formerly known as the Used Kitchen Exchange, Rehome is the UK’s largest seller of approved used, pre-loved and ex-display kitchens – a great idea if you’re looking to sell your old one or buy new on a budget.

Each kitchen is inspected before being listed, with an option for you to view in person, and with available brands often including John Lewis of Hungerford, Magnet, Wren, and Tom Howley, many come with high-end appliances from the likes of Neff, AEG, Bosch and Gaggenau. Rehome will even help arrange for it to be dismantled and delivered to your door. Prices start at £2,500 and every pre-loved kitchen sold saves on average 5,000kg of carbon – the same as a family of four being carbon neutral for a year! Visit Rehome.co.uk
