WINNER

Candy CSC1365WEN

£279; very.co.uk 93/100

H 136 x W54 x D58cm; fridge 111 litres; freezer 62 litres; energy rating: F This affordable, compact appliance aced our tests, scoring full marks for its temperature-regulating abilities. Over 24 hours, it stayed below the recommended maximum temperatures (50C for a fridge and -180C for a freezer). A simple design, its fridge has just two shelves and two in the door, but it does have a salad crisper and the doors can be reversed to suit your set-up. Performed well in our energy efficiency tests.

RUNNER-UP

£529; John Lewis & Partners 87/100

H 185 x W59.5 x D66.8cm; fridge 230 litres; freezer 108 litres; energy rating: F With its built-in water dispenser, this family-size fridge is a premium appliance. It also boasts two vegetable drawers with humidity controls and two deep freezer drawers. It demonstrated impressive temperature regulation, with the fridge remaining under 50C for our full 24-hour trial. The freezer occasionally crept over -180C, but only by less than one degree, so just be vigilant when shutting the freezer door.
