ON THE ROCKS

It’s not my usual tipple, but Adriatico’s Amaretto is spectacular. Both the classic Roasted and milky-looking Bianco flavours are made with handpicked Pugliese almonds and natural ingredients. Vegancertified, not overly sweet and marvellously balanced. Available from Master of Malt, Amazon and The Whisky Exchange, RRP £28.99 for 70cl.

WHAT I’M READING

Niki Segnit has done it again, in her follow-up book to one of my all-time favourites, The Flavour Thesaurus. More Flavours: Plant-led Pairings, Recipes And Ideas For Cooks (Bloomsbury, out 11 May) showcases nearly 100 ingredients, each the subject of stories and explanations, paired enticingly in recipes with complementary flavours. Bedtime and kitchen reading at its finest.

With garlic foraged from Wiltshire woodlands, this Special Edition Wild Garlic Sauce (available from mid-April) will perk up suppers – especially delicious with chicken and pork.
