The magic starts here!

There’s a saying that I’m sure you’ll be familiar with about how ‘it takes a village to raise a child’. I always think about this phrase and how apt it is when it comes to Good Housekeeping’s Christmas edition. The hard work, passion and creativity that goes into these pages is remarkable and my ‘village’ consists of the best team in the business – seasoned experts and brilliant journalists who spend months planning and crafting the features that you’re about to read.

Indeed, our first meeting about Christmas is always in January, when we reflect on the festive season we’ve just experienced and any trends or changes we’ve spotted. We then meet regularly over the course of the year with increased intensity from June onwards – ironically, just as you start sunning yourselves on your summer holidays, in GH-land we’re up to our necks in mince pie tastings, Christmas tree decorating and sparkling baubles and lights!

I do hope you love the results of our endeavours this year and that the following pages inspire your forthcoming celebrations with family and friends. Our aim is to provide a helping hand in making your festive season that little bit easier and ensuring everything goes the way you want. Whether it’s a wonderful gift that’s just right for someone you love, a delicious recipe to wow your gang, a glam new frock, or a clever makeup tip, my greatest hope is that you discover something here that’s so useful it becomes part of your annual traditions for years to come.

I know that our wonderful cover star, Dame Mary Berry, along with the entire Good Housekeeping ‘village’, send you their love and best wishes for a happy Christmas, wherever and however you choose to spend it.

Let the magic commence…
