GET INTO THE SPIRIT

Whether you like it fruity, frozen, strong or long, these summer sips are sure to get the party started.

Blue Lagoon

Blue Curaçao is an orange liqueur, flavoured with Laraha oranges that grow on the island of Curaçao. They’re artificially coloured to a bright blue, hence the name. You can use the clear variety here, if you prefer.

In a sealed jar or cocktail shaker, mix 50ml vodka, 25ml Blue Curaçao (see intro) and 15ml freshly squeezed lemon juice. Fill a small glass with ice and pour in the cocktail. Top up with chilled clear lemonade. Makes 1

Black Magic Martini

Black vodka is made by infusing catechu (extracted from the acacia tree) into the alcohol, which turns it a deep purple/black without affecting the flavour.

In a small pan, simmer 50ml unsweetened cranberry juice until reduced by 1/2 (you need to end up with 25ml). Cool. In a sealed jar or cocktail shaker, mix the reduced cranberry juice, 50ml black vodka (see intro), 25ml smooth orange juice and a few ice cubes until chilled. Strain into a small glass. Frozen Strawberry Margarita

Refreshing on a warm day. Use any frozen fruit you fancy to make this cocktail.

In a high-speed blender or the small bowl of a food processor, whizz 125g frozen strawberries (see intro), 40ml tequila, 15ml triple sec (or Cointreau) and the juice 1/2 lime until you have a slushy consistency. Empty into a glass and garnish with 1/2 frozen strawberry, if you like. Makes 1 PER COCKTAIL 187cals, 0g protein, 0g fat (0g saturates), 11g carbs (11g total sugars), 5g fibre

Yellow Bird

Sunny, strong and suffused with tropical flavour. For a longer tiki-style drink, top up with pineapple or orange juice.

In a sealed jar or cocktail shaker, mix 25ml white rum, 20ml Galliano liqueur, 15ml triple sec (or Cointreau), 15ml freshly squeezed lime juice and a few ice cubes until chilled. Strain into a small glass and garnish with a maraschino cherry, if you like. Makes 1

Gin, Elderflower and Cucumber Sipper

For a longer drink, top up with tonic or lemonade.

In a high-speed blender or the small bowl of a food processor, whizz 1/3 small cucumber, 30ml gin, 30ml elderflower cordial and a few basil leaves until as smooth as you can get it. Press mixture through a fine sieve into a jug, working the pulp well (discard remaining pulp). Fill a small glass with ice and pour in the cocktail. Makes 1
