WEAR WITH MORE DENIM

The Canadian tuxedo enjoyed a good showing at Milan Fashion Week. The secret to making it look smart is to wear coordinating blues, like this street-styler, who also doubled the outfit’s chic factor with a trio of tan accessories and a gold cuff around one sleeve. Bene!

YOU MIGHT EXPECT the celebrities attending fashion month to be sporting a roster of unwearable clothes to sit on the FROW. They didn’t disappoint (sheer pencil skirts, anyone?) but there was one takeaway that was down-to-earth, involving an item of clothing everyone owns: jeans.

The A-list approach is a dressed-up take on denim, combining the comfort of your favourite jeans with a soupçon of smart. Take Solange, who chose a baggy pair as the centrepiece of her outfit at Gucci, proving they’re more than chic enough for the step-and-repeat with a cool shirt that was half button-down, half windbreaker.

Before worrying about how to elevate your true blues to these starry heights, first consider the jeans themselves. M&S has three front-runners for this season (the high-street brand is the market leader for women’s denim, selling approximately 36,000 pairs a day). The first is a carrot-shaped jean, new for S/S ’24, which has a tapered cut and has performed +50% ahead of plan since launching at the beginning of February. Its slim-fit flare is also a strong seller, while sales of its wide-leg style have increased +82% versus last year. Other high street shops to hit include Arket, COS and Hush, while specialist denim brands worth the price are ELV Denim, making new jeans out of old pairs, and Raey, whose low-rise, baggy style has a near cult-like following.
