FASHION IS A fickle beast. One minute it’s all about quiet luxury and ‘groutfits’, the next – just when we’ve grown used to the oversized tailored uniformity of the clean-girl aesthetic – the ‘mob wife’ sweeps in and changes everything. It’s no surprise then, post-fashion month, that another sartorial gear-shift is presenting us with a whole new look. World, acquaint yourself with ‘attitude dressing’.

This new proposition of hyper-confident attire is considerably less bulky. It’s also much louder. It’s a lot less minimal-meh, and it’s all about defining proportions.

Think long legs and boxy, cropped torsos: for anyone who isn’t too fond of covering up in tent-shaped garments, this should be exciting, nay, titillating news.

As cult items ebb and flow in and out of fashion, so do silhouettes. The noughties were defined by elongated torsos and low-slung waists. Then came the minis and broad shoulders, swiftly followed by a Philo-fied craze for wide-leg trousers and tailored attire. Cue the recent obsession with a supersized trench, waistcoats and smart slacks. Now, the style-set is making a beeline the opposite way, seeking a sleek figure with defiant dose of oomph.

It’s good news if you’re experiencing bland-standing fatigue, or have opened your fashion chakras to new sartorial energy, as this isn’t a difficult look to emulate. In fact, this new, self-assured disposition is built around one garment in particular: the bomber jacket.
