Expand your knowledge for the benefit of your garden, wildlife and the planet

RHS EDUCATION:

Gardeners play a vital role in greening urban areas, creating beautiful gardens, growing crops to feed their families and community, helping to protect the natural environment, and creating spaces that benefit us and wildlife.

A love of plants is the simple thing that unites all gardeners along with the understanding that plants are the foundation that underpins all other layers of life. All life on earth is directly or indirectly reliant on plants either from a nutritional perspective or through a deeper connection linked to mental health and wellbeing.

With our changing world, gardens help wildlife in two key ways. By creating habitats, and by providing food sources such as berries, leaves and pollen. Pollinators need our help as loss of habitat and food is one of the main reasons why fewer of them are visiting our gardens. Planting a mixture of native and exotic plants helps slow and reverse the decline in bees, butterflies, moths, hoverflies and other insects. Plant diversity is hugely positive for wildlife and the environment. By expanding your knowledge and taking action, you can make a change for the better. By understanding your soil type, sun direction, and topographical elements in your garden, you can create a design that is compatible with your garden features and the style you wish to achieve, whether that is contemporary, cottage or wild, or grow crops that flourish and give back in abundance. A core knowledge of plants, their structure, growth, and health, ensures that you choose plants that will not only enhance your garden, but will thrive and bring in a variety of garden wildlife, too.

An RHS qualification can guide you through the skills and knowledge you need to plan and manage your preferred garden style or allotment. You can grow your knowledge and skills to design and plant with confidence.

Level 2 qualifications combine hands-on practical experience alongside theory concepts, and are offered by approved providers throughout the UK.
