Tackling mental health inequalities

1 min read

In 1948, the world was in major crisis following the end of the Second World War. The need to address mental wellbeing was finally recognised, and the World Federation For Mental Health (WFMH) was founded. Now, for World Mental Health Day on 10 October, they’re looking back to their roots, as we again find ourselves in a global crisis.

The pandemic has had a devastating effect on mental health worldwide, and widened health, economic and social inequalities, say WFMH, which is why this year’s campaign is ‘Mental Health in an Unequal World’. Between 75% to 95% of people with mental disorders in low- and middle-income countries are unable to access mental health services – and access for many people in high-income countries is not much better. WFHM want to change this by encouraging societies to play a more active role in tackling inequality in their local areas. To find out more and get involved, visit wfmh.global.
