There was dancing, drinking – and a dollop of drama
Geri Horner turned the milestone age of 50 in August, but pushed back her planned September bash due to the Queen’s death. And when the celebrations finally took place last week, they didn’t disappoint, with a star-studded guest list and emotional reunion for the Spice Girls – well, almost.
In an Instagram video that has been liked more than 1.4million times, David Beckham captured Victoria Beckham, 48, Emma Bunton, 46, and Mel C, 48, as they joined Geri for a Spice spectacle on the dance floor. Posh, Baby, Sporty and Ginger belted out their 1996 anthem Say You’ll Be There, much to the sheer joyoffans, one ofwhom called the iconic moment “dopamine for my eyes”.
David – who met Vic at the peak of her Spice Girls fame in 1997 – captioned the video, “Special celebrating Ginger this weekend and even more special to capture this moment of the girls. A friendship for life.”
But there was one member of the fiv-epiece missing on the nostalgia-packed evening: Mel B. Her absence was addressed by David in the video as he added, “@officialmelb you were missed.” And heat’s insiders say that the night was tainted with emotion because of her absence, and that at one point, Posh got quite tearful.
Our source reveals, “Victoria had really been looking forward to the reunion with her Spice bandmates.
She’s had a rough few months of heartache over Brooklyn because of the issues with his wife Nicola, and was up for swilling Champagne with them all to drown her sorrows. But as great as it was to be able to be silly and dance it up with them, the absence of Mel B meant it was hard to feel like it was a proper reunion and that made Victoria a bit emotional. The problem is Geri is still bitter over the one-night stand accusations, and has not forgiven Mel for – as she sees it – trying to make money out of her.”
Mel B, 47, dropped a bombshell during an appearance on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories back in 2019, when she claimed to have slept with Geri – who is married to Formula One racing boss Christian Horner – during their Spice Girls heyday. “She’s going to hate me for this because she’s all posh in her country house with her husband,” Mel said to the presenter after the revelation, adding, “It just happened and we just giggled.”
Mel – who is newly-engaged to long-term boyfriend Rory McPhee – has since admitted things were difficult between her and Geri following her candid interview, which was aired before they were about to start rehearsals for their 2019 Spice World tour. “It was awkward,” the singer recalled, adding that the headlines about their relationship “was badtiming”.
