Earlier this year, rumours circulated that there was tension between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex –but the pair looked the picture of relaxed happiness as they held hands on holiday in the Caribbean earlier this month. Now, asource tells heat that the getaway did wonders for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s marriage issues.

Following a visit to New York for World Mental Health Day, Meghan, 42, and Harry, 39, enjoyed some downtime on a tropical getaway. The pair travelled to Canouan, in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, an unspoilt island known for being the ultimate honeymoon destination. And our source reveals that the trip was a “much-needed escape” for the strained Sussexes, who’ve had to deal with (and deny) rumours that Harry has a hotel room on standby for time away from his wife.

“The trip was very much Harry’s idea. He wanted to whisk Meghan away for some couple time, and try to reignite the spark between them,” we’re told. “He’s worried they don’t have enough fun these days, since Meghan’s focused on work and isn’t keen on travelling to the UK with him. They spent time relaxing, and it was great for them. The purpose of the trip was also to figure out aplan moving forward. They’d like to avoid couples’ therapy, if possible.”

Our source adds that they’re taking some proactive steps to inject the passion back into their five-year marriage. “Harry’s always made one-on-one time with Meghan a priority, but he hasn’t had as much time lately. Between his trial in the UK [his lawsuit against a British tabloid publisher] and his work for various charities, he’s been swamped. The trip was achance to have some fun, with loads of activities like sailing and snorkelling, as well as nice dinners out.”

The source continues, “It’s not like they’re in crisis, but like everyone, they have their issues and need some quality time together. The intensity and scale of the stress they face can make them very tetchy, especially as they’re under so much scrutiny at all times.”
