As much as we love celebs here on heat, we’re not sure we would put our trust in many to bag us a fortune. But that’s the reality for the brave new contestants about to take on Michael McIntyre’s The Wheel.
The game show is returning with the remaining episodes of series four, where celeb regulars and newbies will offer knowledge in their expert areas to guide the game players to a booming bank balance. Michael – whose other BBC hit Michael McIntyre’s Big Show has just wrapped up – is understandably chuffed at the success The Wheel has garnered across its three-year run. What started as a lightbulb moment in the bath has become a ratings hit. “I just thought there hadn’t been many new formats for game shows, and they’re so well-loved. So, I decided to try and think of one,” he recalls. Ahead of the latest instalment, the comedian, 47, gives us a taste of what viewers can expect…
Who’s taking on The Wheel this time round?
There are first-time experts like Russell T Davies, Steve Pemberton and GK Barry, as well as Wheel veterans like Katherine Ryan, Vanessa Feltz and William Hanson.
Who’s your standout celebrity from over the years?
Dermot O’Leary is a Wheel legend, having finished top of the leaderboard three times. We might have to create a Hall Of Fame for experts – Dermot would certainly be the first inductee.
Do you think you could take Dermot on?
I certainly couldn’t compete with Dermot – my general knowledge is appalling, which I think helps me not give anything away to the contestants. But I like the idea of maybe if a contestant lands on a “Hall Of Famer”, it’s double money.
What would you pick for your expert category?
I’m OK with sport, so football or cricket. Joel Dommett had “Michael McIntyre” as his category. I’d be good at that one!
