It’s been eight years since the second series of Love Island aired on ITV2, which means it’s been eight years since iconic duo Alex and Olivia Bowen first met.

After finding an instant connection on the show, they’ve gone from strength to strength –buying and renovating ahome, getting married in 2018, and welcoming son Abel in 2022. And with their latest partnership – helping people kit out their home gym with Primal –they’re getting even stronger. We chat to

Alex, 32, and Olivia, 30, about why fitness is so important to them, the pressures of looking good, and why they’re keeping their son out of the spotlight.

You’re both big on fitness. Has it always been important to you?

Alex: I’m 32 now and I’ve been training since Iwas 16. For me, it not only helps physically, but it helps mentally, as well.

Olivia: Exercise just makes you feel great. I’ve tried to get away from it for years and it hasn’t worked. Ijust feel so much better after I’ve worked out.

Do you like working out together or is it time to be alone?

A: It’s time to spend on our own –plus Liv doesn’t like being told what to do. Iplan her workouts, but Ican’t be in the room.

O: Ido have aproblem with authority. We spend so much time together, so that moment is just ours. That’s important in arelationship. Plus, being told what to do is annoying! We annoy each other all the time. Idon’t think you can be ahusband and wife without annoying each other.

And you’re lucky enough to have a fully kitted-out gym at home…

A: We created our own gym at home during COVID, but it wasn’t up to scratch. Primal do afull range of equipment, so you’ve got the home stuff, the middle-ground stuff, and then the gym equipment –it’s all really good.

O: We’re very lucky to have the space for agym, but it’s important to us that it’s shoppable for everyone.

Does being in the public eye mean you feel pressure to look good?

A: I’ve always felt that anyway, but I’m more mature now and Itrain to be healthy more than for the aesthetics. Ifeel like being in the public eye, you always try to put the best version of yourself out there on Instagram.
