Cast your mind back to the early noughties. Everyone’s in cargo pants watching Big Brother, and J-Lo’s Love Don’t Cost A Thing is Number One on the UK charts. Fast-forward to 2024, and while the other two have come back around, Jennifer Lopez isn’t having quite the same renaissance.

After it was revealed J-Lo, 54, cancelled seven dates on her upcoming This Is Me… Now tour, the biggest theory as to why is that sales haven’t been great. Large numbers of tickets at many of the shows are still available on Ticketmaster, and insiders tell heat, “J-Lo’s ego can’t bear the thought of not selling out shows. She’s comparing herself to Taylor Swift and Beyoncé, whose dates are immediate sell-outs, and she’s coming up short. Cancelling early could be away to save face –no artist wants to be in the position of having half-empty stadiums or discounted tickets.”

It’s been one thing after another for the singer in the past few months. First, her self-funded $20million film This Is Me... Now: ALove Story was described as “confusing” by critics. And despite featuring some pretty impressive cameos, including from Jane Fonda as aphysical embodiment of the star sign Sagittarius, J-Lo admitted that numerous stars declined to take part in the film, including Taylor Swift, Jennifer Coolidge and Vanessa Hudgens. She said at the time, “I don’t want to force anyone who doesn’t think this is going to be fun to do. Nobody wants to say no to me, Iget that, but when an actor doesn’t like ascript or is worried about it, that’s what they say.”
