“What are you looking at?”

DISNEY+, FRIDAY 7JUNE

This new six-part French drama focuses on the life and times of the German fashion designer, who worked in various top fashion houses from the 1950s up until 1983, when he became the creative director and figurehead of Chanel for the rest of his days. The series kicks off its story in 1972, when the designer (Daniel Brühl, Captain America: Civil War) is 38 years old, unknown and has yet to adopt his iconic hairstyle, araked low ponytail. When Lagerfeld falls in love with the ambitious young dandy Jacques de Bascher (Théodore Pellerin, There’s Someone Inside Your House), he develops the drive to take on his fashion-genius friend and rival Yves Saint Laurent (Arnaud Valois, Good Grief ), who is backed by the razor-sharp business brain of Pierre Bergé. Cue much pouting, crying, slapping of faces and some seriously fab frocks.
