November issue’s cover star Amelia Gething started her flourishing career writing and performing sketches to make her friends and family laugh then posting them on YouTube and TikTok. Amassing over seven million followers, the north Londoner would entertain from her living room and earned enough money to invest in professional cameras and kit for slicker productions. But she always dreamed of becoming an actress and, at the age of 18, that dream became a reality when her sketches caught the attention of the BBC and she was catapulted to fame with the launch of The Amelia Gething Complex. Comedy and children’s TV led to feature films and a few years later she was cast as Anne Brontë in Emily. Next, she will be starring in upcoming Sky Atlantic series Mary & George alongside Julianne Moore. She’s testament to the phrase ‘hard work pays off’ and a reminder that you don’t have to be well-connected to succeed. In this digital age we can build our own platforms to reach our destiny.
Acting has also brought Amelia closer to fashion, being invited to the front rows of the bi-annual catwalk shows in Paris and Milan and working with luxury brands like Dior, which she wears on our cover shoot. “I’m still working out my wardrobe and what my style is, so it’s great to work with Dior and see all of the amazing pieces and wear them for events and in this magazine. I love playing dress-up and the pieces are so delicate and sophisticated. I guess I express my personality when I’m wearing the outfits.” We can affirm her personality truly shone on the shoot as she posed with the killer confidence of a seasoned model, see page 24.
Another skill the multi-talented Amelia is trying to master is her make-up. “I’ve had a couple of compliments on my make-up in the past, but little do those people know that I have one very basic look that I can do and I perfected it,” she laughs.
