The multi-talented textile designer, model, photographer and graphic artist talks us through her creative career path and her exciting new project
Born and raised in London, Zoë started modelling at aged 15 before teaching herself the skills to get behind the camera and becoming an accomplished portrait photographer (she counts Morgan Freeman as one of her subjects). Living between London and LA, she added graphic artist to her ever-growing CV and designed ads and album art for big-hitters including Brit Awardwinning Jack Garratt. In 2023, Zoë turned her hand to textile design, and founded The 87, technically a beachwear brand, but these pieces are begging to be worn in the big city, too.
“When I look back at the various phases of my career, there’s never a point where I stop something and move on – I still model sometimes, I still do artwork for album covers – I just get creatively restless and then feel the need to start looking for the next outlet,” Zoë tells us. “But the different parts of my career wouldn’t exist without each other.”
Zoë hails from a creative family, her dad is Hans Zimmer, the acclaimed composer responsible for iconic film scores such as Gladiator, Pirates of the Caribbean and The Lion King, and her mum Vicki is an interior designer and property consultant. “Both of my parents are very creative people and I owe so much of my own creativity to them both. Being an only child, I was often sat at dinner parties as a kid with endlessly interesting people who worked in film and fashion and music and it’s impossible to not be influenced by that, not just as an artist but as a person,” Zoë adds. “I learnt so much from my parents and their friends, not just about the things I was interested in, but how to be interested in them, how to really engage with the things that you’re passionate about and how to get the most out of it all. But mainly, my household growing up was just so much fun – it still is!”
