Last year, loungewear and accessories label Hush appointed Melissa Dick as chief creative officer.

Having held senior roles in publishing in the 00s, she moved into retail in the 2010s and most recently she was living in New York working as global vice president of creative at Coach.

What will the next chapter for Hush look like?

An effortless combination of ease and excitement.

For me, tension is absolutely everything in fashion. I love the pushpull between [founder] Mandy’s laidback relaxed Aussie attitude and the fashion excitement you feel in London. I want to bring these two things together to create an effortless wardrobe that flexes with women’s lives today.

Where do your design inspirations come from?

Pieces with a laidback sense of style

From the Hush woman’s life, from the women I see around me. Also, listening to friends and taking in street style and the runway. And of course, the things I want to wear myself. I think great designs often combine instinct and the quest for practicality and versatility. Do you have a favourite piece from the SS24 collection? Right now, it’s jeans and co-ords. And I love our black maxi skirt – it’s a new silhouette that is making my whole wardrobe feel fresh again, worn with the leather woven Cora mule. But tomorrow it could be something else. I love so many of our pieces. How would you describe your personal style?

I like to think it’s effortless. I spend a lot of time thinking about styling and trying on clothes, but I don’t like it to look like I tried too hard. I like to keep it informal, but chic and pulled together – never sloppy.

What do you like to do when you’re not working? Take a lie down! No, seriously, I love cycling alone while listening to Desert Island Discs, I can be out for hours and hours – it’s my happy place out in the fresh air going as fast as I can. I also love travelling – and planning travels with my family. And I love cooking at home and watching movies with my teenage boys Gabriel and Art – if I can pin them down at the weekend, that’s dreamy. What do you enjoy doing to relax?
