DUA LIPA

Joint fashion venture with Versace

Pop star Dua Lipa has joined forces with Donatella Versace to co-design a womenswear collection, which will be released this month.

Known as a long-time fan and face of the Versace brand, the Albanian-British star, 27, fronted its autumn/winter campaign in 2021. The new collection, entitled La Vacanza, will debut at an intimate fashion show in Cannes on 23 May and go on sale immediately afterwards.

Dua said she was “thrilled” to have worked alongside Donatella on the collection.

“She and I have formed such a strong bond over the years, and I’m so grateful for the support I’ve received from her and the whole team since the very beginning of my career,” she said, adding that it has “been a dream”.

IMRAN KHAN

Countrywide violence follows arrest

Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan has pleaded not guilty to corruption charges in Islamabad’s High Court. He had been arrested outside the same court on Tuesday last week by almost 100 paramilitary officers, leading to widespread protests. At least ten people have died and 2,000 were arrested in clashes between police and protesters across the country. The government said more than a dozen official buildings were looted.

The 70-year-old leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party was later released on bail after Pakistan’s Supreme Court ruled his arrest on court premises was unlawful. His party says the charges against Imran, a vocal critic of the country’s military, are politically motivated.

PRINCE

Purple reigns on renamed road

Late pop legend Prince has had a US highway named after him to recognise his “true genius” following a unanimous vote by state politicians in Minnesota. The road, renamed the Prince Rogers Nelson Memorial Highway and marked with signs in Prince’s trademark colour purple, runs past the Paisley Park estate in Chanhassen, in south-west Minneapolis, where the star lived and recorded his music before he passed away in 2016 following an accidental fentanyl overdose at the age of 57.

The bill’s lead sponsor, state Senator Julia Coleman, said: “Prince was a true genius, a visionary artist who pushed the boundaries of music and culture.” The bill was signed into law – in purple ink – by state Governor Tim Walz.
