Her Majesty, a keen reader, gets stuck in as she chats with young pupils at Shirehampton Primary School in Bristol, where a new library has been created

T he Queen learnt a few new skills and enjoyed some storytelling during a trip to Bristol last week, in her first solo engagement since the coronation.

As part of her ongoing drive to get the nation reading, Her Majesty visited Shirehampton Primary School to celebrate the 50 Coronation Libraries that are due to be created across the UK over the next year.

She met pupils and teachers from ten other schools that have created libraries, as well as leading children’s authors who had signed up to help with the initiative.

First, Camilla joined pupils for a lesson on creating a “dream library”, led by former children’s laureate Cressida Cowell, loved for her How to Train Your Dragon series.

After a tour of the school’s new library, Camilla relaxed by listening to Horrid Henry author Francesca Simon, who was holding a reading session. She then unveiled a plaque marking the library’s official opening, giving it “a good tap for good luck”.
