It was not the sort of family gathering they are accustomed to, but the King and Queen were “pleased” to be reunited with the Princess of Wales inside the London Clinic last week.Their Majesties visited Kate, 42, as she continued her recovery at the private hospital after undergoing abdominal surgery on 16 January. But it was far from just a visit to see his “beloved daughter-in-law” for the monarch. With his wife at his side, His Majesty was admitted as a patient himself for planned treatment.

The King, 75, had shared his diagnosis of a benign enlarged prostate after cancelling a series of engagements on medical advice. In a statement last Friday, a spokesperson for Buckingham Palace said: “The King was this morning admitted to a London hospital for scheduled treatment.“His Majesty would like to thank all those who have sent their good wishes over the past week and is delighted to learn that his diagnosis is having a positive impact on public health awareness.”Smiling as she left the hospital after spending around six hours there, the Queen, 76, said her husband was “doing well, thank you”.The King was expected to spend at least two nights in hospital and a further two weeks recovering. A royal source tells hello! Their Majesties were “pleased” to be able to check in on the Princess before his surgery. Kate, meanwhile, was due to stay in hospital for up to 14 days and faces a prolonged recovery period. While her diagnosis remains private, she is not expected to carry out public duties until after Easter, but was also said to be “doing well”.
