LET PUPPY NELSON PLAY A LEADING ROLE DURING A STROLL IN THE SOUTH OF FRANCE

They may be one of Hollywood’s star couples, but it was George and Amal Clooney’s adorable new puppy Nelson who stole the spotlight on a recent outing.

Joining them for a sunny weekend stroll in the South of France, the couple’s gorgeous St Bernard looked laid back as he relaxed in Amal’s arms.

Nelson is believed to have been a gift from George to Amal for her 46th birthday, which she celebrated on 3 February.

The pair – who are parents to sixyear-old twins Ella and Alexander – were spotted meandering through the streets of the picturesque Provençal village of Cotignac with their fluffy pup in tow, before visiting an art gallery and joining friends for lunch on the terrace of gourmet restaurant Picotte.

Human-rights lawyer Amal cut a chic figure in a vintage Pierre Cardin suede dress as she scooped her four-legged friend into her arms when he got tired of walking, while her Ocean’s Eleven actor husband was seen holding the dog’s lead.

Nelson isn’t the family’s first St Bernard; he joins much-loved pooch Rosie, who is named after George’s late aunt Rosemary.

Renowned philanthropists George, 62, and Amal have always shared a deep affection for animals. In fact, dogs played a pivotal part in their love story, which began in 2013 when they met at a dinner party on Lake Como.

LOVE ME, LOVE MY DOG

In the early days of their courtship, the pair exchanged emails, with George writing his from the perspective of his beloved cocker spaniel Einstein, and jokingly claiming the pooch needed Amal’s legal expertise.

What’s more, the couple were on an African safari and had just seen Amal’s favourite animals – giraffes – when George decided to propose. “I had a picture of her, looking back, smiling at these giraffes, and I said:
