Spanish royalty joined European aristocracy to celebrate the glittering wedding of Teresa Urquijo Moreno, granddaughter of Princess Teresa of Bourbon Two Sicilies, to the Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida.
Crowds of well-wishers turned out in force for the couple, who have been together for a little over a year, and their 400 notable guests, a who’s who of the Spanish social elite.
Leading the throng was former King Juan Carlos, a cousin of Princess Teresa. He responded to cheers from the crowd with smiles and waves as he walked into church with the aid of a stick.
Joining him were his two daughters, the Infantas Elena and Cristina, and three of his eight grandchildren, including fashionista Victoria de Marichalar in a geometric print dress from Himba Collection.
Power couple the Duke and Duchess of Huéscar looked stylish, with Sofía turning heads in a jade Devota & Lomba dress as she walked with her husband, a direct descendant of England’s James II.
Leading the House of Bourbon Tw o Sicilies was the bride’s grandmother, resplendent in aquamarine. Diego Simeone, manager of the groom’s beloved football team Atlético Madrid, and his wife Carla Pereyra also impressed the crowd.
A DAY OF EMOTIONS
José Luis, 48, was all smiles as he arrived at the San Francisco de Borja church, in the city’s exclusive Salamanca district, to be greeted by his five siblings and cries of “¡Guapo! [Handsome!]”. He looked suitably smart in a bespoke charcoal grey morning coat and trousers made by a local tailor, which had taken 70 hours of work.
