New research from British Gas has found that Brits are confused about tackling energy efficiency in the home. Polling UK homeowners, the energy giant found that a whopping 74% find it difficult to tell just how much energy they are wasting around the house. So to help homeowners become smarter about energy efficiency and consumption, British Gas has launched a Home Health Check ser vice.

Designed to help homeowners establish the energy efficiency of their property and identify areas for improvement, the service costs just £99 and will require a British Gas expert to visit the home to assess it over the course of an hour. The specialist will look at the home’s heating system and analyse how well it’s running, use thermal imaging to identify which radiators aren’t heating properly and calculate heat loss based on insulation, glazing and airflow. Homeowners will then receive a personalised report within seven days, complete with recommendations for enhancing efficiency and reducing energy bills. You can book a slot at britishgas.co.uk

Berkshire-based start-up, Tepeo, has designed a ‘zero emission boiler’ to help UK homeowners reduce their energy output and bills. The ZEB boiler is programmed to draw electricity from the grid at cheaper times of the day, or when it is lower carbon. It then stores the energy, releasing heat to your radiators, underfloor heating system or water tank when your thermostat requires. The ZEB also boasts a Smart Charging algorithm, which learns when you want your home to be warm and hot water to flow. Plus, thanks to the Tepeo app, users can control their ZEB at the touch of a button. Costing £8,000 to buy and install, the ZEB works at the same flow and return temperature as a fossil fuel boiler, so no changes need to be made to your heating system prior to installation.
