Paul Storr is deemed one of Britain’s most prolific and successful silversmiths, working at a time when there was great demand for silver wares for use in both domestic and commercial settings. Following early personal success, in 1807 he joined the company Rundell, Bridge & Rundell, goldsmiths to the Crown. Here he made items and oversaw production – his hallmark was a guarantee of quality. In 1819, Storr opened his own shop and three years later, in 1822, formed the company Storr & Mortimer. From personal commissions to orders made for prestigious companies, he’s remembered for his mastery of the neoclassical style, and Storr-hallmarked pieces are highly sought after at Lyon & Turnbull sales.
