Welcome to the April issue of H&A, which is filled with fresh and inspiring features, from new fields of collecting to brilliant ideas for redecorating your home. Long seen as the heralds of spring, daffodils are a popular decorative motif on antiques, and we consider their enduring appeal on page 6. Continuing the floral theme, turn to page 24 for our pick of the latest crop of pretty sprigged fabrics and wallpapers. And in our regular ‘Heirlooms of the Future’ feature (p32), we shine a light on artist Sarah Battle’s intricate paper quilt collages, many of which feature blossom-covered boughs and floral bouquets.

The arrival of spring always sees me casting a critical eye over my home – bright sunlight, though welcome, tends to draw attention to neglected corners! While I don’t have time to embark on a complete revamp, I am planning to follow some of the quick fixes suggested by the interiors experts who share their tips with Jenny Oldaker on page 19.

This month’s houses (from p38), were chosen with April in mind: their bright, light-filled and welcoming rooms are full of optimism as well as decorating inspiration. Each one, as ever, is a very personal expression of the owner’s style and interests, as well as being a foil for their various collections.

Our antiques content is focused on ceramics, with features that range from Poole Pottery (p95) to Willa Latham’s whistlestop tour of British porcelain (p100). Meanwhile, if you’re looking for practical and affordable antiques, Emma Longstaff makes the case for Edwardian furniture (p89), which is surely due a revival, and worth investing in before prices rise.
