Anna’s problem living room

‘This is my living room, which is quite dark and north-facing. It has French doors that lead out to the garden. I’d really like to change the yellow walls and bookcase colour (it’s currently red), and to be able to show off the art that I’ve collected over the years. The space needs to fit a sofa, storage for books, trinkets and my son’s crafts and board games.’

LIKES:

Greens, blues and bright colours. I’m open to pattern and natural, cosy textures.

DISLIKES:

Too much pink or fussy florals. why it works

HOLLY PHILLIPS

A personality-fuelled palette of joyful brights, peppered with natural textures and tactile finishes will revive Anna’s dark living space, giving it a fun eclectic-boho twist. This will provide the perfect setting for Anna to create an eye-catching gallery wall with her art collection. Trending mushroom-inspired silhouettes help break up any ‘boxy’ angles and give limited space a sense of organic flow.

Holly’s style tips

● A hero display unit that combines concealed and open storage is ideal for creating a gorgeous shelfie out of stylish trinkets and books, while hiding crafts and games.

● Embrace a dark lounge with statement seating! A colour pop chaise sofa that can nestle into a cosy corner will actually create a sense of added space, while amping up the snug factor and maxing-out seating.

● Balance patterns to add layers of interest without overwhelming the senses.

Introduce ‘pattern pops’ through a feature rug, cushions and throws, which are then easy to change each season for an affordable revamp!
