TOTAL £2,445 ‘I love an upcycling opportunity, like this large mirror which I transformed with plaster and spray paint. The chair is an old rattan garden chair which I stripped back and reupholstered with fabric remnants’

When I first moved into my house, I noticed the living room felt quite dark. There was a window overlooking the garden, letting in a bit of light, and just one door leading from the kitchen. This made access into the living room quite awkward and it wasn’t practical. I found some good builders who explained the process of adding some doors. They were able to create large French doors leading onto the garden and a new door from the hallway. Not only does this make access so much easier, but the space is now flooded with natural light. One of the living room walls had been painted teal, which was too imposing and didn’t fit with the look I wanted. I decided to paint all the walls white for a neutral backdrop so I could inject my own style and personality. The old floor was quite damaged, so I replaced it with pale limestone-effect tiles, which complement the white walls and help to brighten up the space and make it feel more open.

I'm really interested in interior design and I’m inspired by all sorts of styles. I love the mix of natural and modern elements and the luxurious feel of opulent décor. Plus, I love bright colours! I think it makes spaces feel more homely. I’m also interested in upcycling furniture. It gives me such a sense of satisfaction to know I’ve made it myself and it also gives my home a personalised touch. One of my biggest projects is the wall mirror. I bought a standard rectangular mirror from IKEA and gave it an organic stone-effect transformation using foil, plaster, and spray paint. I also made the wall lights using vinyl tiles from Total Tiles and added LED strips. One my favourite new buys, however, is my orange sofa. When I saw this one, I knew it was the perfect fit for my home. I love the splash of colour.

Chrystal loves to add texture to make the space feel cosy. She’s repurposed a ball of oversized cotton string from another project to make a decorative cushion, too
